Short Detail:Adur World Oceans Day 2011

Adur World Oceans Day 2011

I am pleased to say everybody is really enthusiastic about Adur World Oceans Day again this year which will take place on 11 June 2011 as usual in the marquee on Coronation Green. This will the eleventh successive year that the event will take place.

Len Nevell will be there with the Lobsters supplied by Monteum, wildlife writer Steve Savage will present the Dolphin exhibition on behalf of the Sea Watch Foundation and Andy Horton of the British Marine Life Study Society will present the aquarium display and a strandline exhibition. Friends of Shoreham Beach will display their interactive exhibition for the younger age group and provide information about the beach environment. Other exhibitors are David and Marion Wood with their shingle flower display and photographs. Other exhibitors (to be confirmed) are the River Adur Conservation Society and World of Widewater.

This year, West Sussex County Council are pre-booked at another event, so the BMLSS will present a strandline exhibit and would welcome any co-operation on this. In other words, if somebody else wanted to man the stall which present the exhibits on a purple backcloth. There will be the live exhibits in aquaria.

Other environmental, wildlife and heritage groups are welcome to participate. The theme is education and science with a marine and sustainability emphasis.

This year the event will take place on the same day as the Farmer's Market and other activities connected with this event, perhaps a Food Festival. Exhibits should be compatible. Exhibitions need to be pre-booked. An electric supply and tables are provided.

There is an unique free opportunity to present your photographs of wildlife, seascapes, shorescapes (coastal topography) to the public on behalf of your  club or society on a stall that will be manned for the duration of the event. The event lasts from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. There is electricity supplied for laptops, and computer information etc. Talks can also be arranged. The limit is your information within the remits of the environmental event.
